# Allergens

> Declare product allergens and understand the customer filter.

Declaring allergens helps customers identify products that may not be suitable for them. Add allergens to each relevant product and keep the information up to date whenever a recipe changes.

<Warning>
  Allergen information is provided as guidance and does not guarantee the absence of cross-contamination. Customers with an allergy should speak directly with the restaurant.
</Warning>

## Add allergens to a product

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the product">
    From **Edit menu**, select the product you want to update.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select the allergens">
    In **General information**, open **Allergens** and select every allergen associated with the product.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the product">
    Select **Save**. The allergens appear in the product details on the customer menu.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Mutfaaq provides a standardized list of 14 allergens: gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, peanuts, soy, milk, nuts, celery, mustard, sesame, sulphites, lupin, and molluscs.

The names are automatically displayed in the customer’s menu language. You select from the provided list and cannot create custom allergen labels.

## Understand the customer filter

When at least one product in the menu declares an allergen, customers can open **Filter by allergens** and choose what they want to avoid.

The filter is named **Hide products containing**. It removes every product that declares at least one selected allergen.

<Tip>
  For example, if a customer selects **Peanuts** and **Milk**, Mutfaaq hides products that declare peanuts, milk, or both.
</Tip>

The filter only changes what is displayed on the customer’s device. It does not modify the menu or the products themselves.

## Keep allergen information reliable

* Confirm the information with the people who prepare the products.
* Review allergens whenever ingredients, recipes, or suppliers change.
* Select every relevant allergen from the list.
* Do not treat a missing allergen label as proof that a product is allergen-free.

Mutfaaq does not distinguish between direct presence and possible traces. Use the information to describe known allergens, while handling cross-contamination guidance directly with your customers.
