# Products

> Add products and control how they appear on your menu.

Products are the dishes, drinks, and other items offered on your menu. Every product belongs to one category and has its own price.

## Create a product

    From the navigation, select **Edit menu**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose a category">
    Find the category where the product should appear, then select **Add product**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the product information">
    Enter a name and a price. You can also add a description, calories, and a photo.

    Keep **Translate product name** enabled if the name should be translated. Turn it off for a signature dish, brand, or proper name that must remain unchanged.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the product">
    Select **Save**. If you are editing the active menu, the product becomes visible to customers immediately.
  </Step>
</Steps>

You can drag a product to change its position or move it into another category.

## Add useful product details

A clear description and a good photo help customers understand what they are ordering. You can add:

* a description of up to 2,000 characters;
* one square product photo;
* calories in kilocalories;
* allergens from the list provided by Mutfaaq.

To add allergens, save the product first, then open it from **Edit menu** and update its general information.

<Warning>
  Allergen information is guidance only and does not guarantee the absence of cross-contamination. Make sure the information you provide is accurate for your restaurant.
</Warning>

## Control product visibility and stock

Open a product to manage its availability. The following controls have different purposes:

| Control | What customers see | When to use it |
| ------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Visible to guests** off | The product is completely hidden. | You do not want to offer or display the product for now. |
| **In stock** off | The product remains visible and is marked sold out. | The product is temporarily out of stock. |
| **Limit availability** | The product follows a recurring schedule. | You only offer it on certain days or during certain hours. |

<Tip>
  If a dish sells out during service, turn off **In stock**. Customers can still see that you normally offer it, but they cannot mistake it for an available product.
</Tip>

## Schedule product availability

Enable **Limit availability** to choose the days and, optionally, a start and end time. The schedule uses the restaurant’s timezone and can continue past midnight.

Outside the scheduled period, choose between:

* **Show as unavailable**, which keeps the product visible;
* **Hide product**, which removes it until its next available period.

For example, a lunch special available from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM can remain visible after 3:00 PM as unavailable, or disappear completely until 11:00 AM the next day.

## Add a product promotion

Products support three types of promotion:

* **Percentage off**, such as 20% off;
* **Fixed amount off**, such as 2 USD off;
* **Final price**, such as a promotional price of 10 USD.

A promotion can start immediately or on a chosen date, stop automatically, and follow a weekly schedule. If several promotions could apply, Mutfaaq uses the first applicable promotion in the order you set. Promotions never stack.

## Edit or delete a product

Select a product from **Edit menu** to change its information, availability, promotions, or options.

<Warning>
  Deleting a product is permanent. If an option shares this product’s stock, Mutfaaq asks whether you want to preserve or delete that option before completing the deletion.
