# Promotions

> Create discounts for individual products or entire categories.

Promotions reduce the price shown to customers. You can apply a promotion to one product or to every product in a category.

Promotions only change prices. They do not make a hidden, unavailable, or sold-out product available again.

## Choose where the promotion applies

| Promotion          | Applies to                  | Example                                       |
| ------------------ | --------------------------- | --------------------------------------------- |
| Product promotion | One specific product | Reduce the price of one signature burger. |
| Category promotion | Every product in a category | Apply a Happy Hour discount to all cocktails. |

To add a product promotion, open **Edit menu**, select the product, then select **Add promotion** in **Promotions**.

To add a category promotion, open **Edit menu**, find the category, then select **Manage category promotions**.

## Choose the price change

Mutfaaq supports three promotion types. For a product normally priced at **10 USD**:

| Type                 | Example                | Promotional price |
| -------------------- | ---------------------- | ----------------: |
| **Percentage off**   | 20% off                |             8 USD |
| **Fixed amount off** | 3 USD off              |             7 USD |
| **Final price**      | Set the price directly |          6.50 USD |

Use **Percentage off** when the same proportional discount should work across products with different prices. Use **Fixed amount off** for a specific saving. Use **Final price** when you already know the exact price customers should pay.

Mutfaaq shows a price preview before you save the promotion.

## Schedule a promotion

A promotion can apply immediately with no end date, or follow a schedule.

You can choose:

* a future start date and time;
* an optional end date and time;
* recurring days of the week;
* optional recurring start and end times.

For example, you can schedule a 20% discount every weekday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, or set a promotion to run from December 1 through December 31.

Schedules use the restaurant’s timezone. If you select recurring days without entering hours, the promotion applies all day on those days.

## Understand promotion priority

Promotions never stack. Customers receive only one promotion at a time.

If several promotions in the same product or category are active and match their schedules, Mutfaaq uses the first one in the order shown. Drag promotions to change their priority.

If a category promotion and a product promotion apply at the same time, open **Manage category promotions** and choose which type takes priority:

* **Category promotions**;
* **Product promotions**.

<Tip>
  Put your most specific or most valuable promotion first, then use the price preview to confirm the result customers will see.
</Tip>

## Temporarily disable or remove a promotion

Turn **Active** off to pause a promotion without deleting its settings. You can turn it back on later.

Delete a promotion only when you no longer need it. Deletion is permanent.

<Note>
  Changes to promotions in the active menu become visible to customers immediately when the promotion is applicable.
